Eight year old girl critical following alleged stabbing in Stockbridge

A Young girl is fighting for life after allegedly being stabbed by a woman as she slept.

The eight-year-old was in bed when she was knifed at a townhouse in Stockbridge, during the early hours of this morning, it is claimed.

The tragic youngster suffered multiple wounds and is critically ill in hospital.

It is understood the woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was also being treated in hospital for knife wounds as police launched a major investigation into the horror.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said “Police in Edinburgh were called to an address in Danube Street around 1.35am on Wednesday where an 8-year-old girl was found with serious injuries.

“She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where she remains in a critical condition and specialist detectives are currently supporting her family.

“A 48-year-old woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after also being found seriously injured within the address

“She has now been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with this incident.”
